The calculated spin-only magnetic moments (BM) of the anionic and cationic species of \left [ Fe \left ( H_{2}O \right )_{6} \right ]_{2} and \left [ Fe \left ( CN \right )_{6} \right ], respectively are:

  • Option 1)

    0 and 4.9

  • Option 2)

    2.84 and 5.92

  • Option 3)

\left [ Fe\left ( H_{2}O \right )_{6} \right ]\left [ Fe \left ( CN \right )_{6} \right ] \Rightarrow \left [ Fe\left ( H_{2}O \right )_{6} \right ]^{2+}\left [ Fe \left ( CN \right )_{6} \right ]^{4-}

Atomic Number of Fe=26=[Ar]3d64s2

                            Fe2+=[Ar]3d6

H2O: weak field ligand:- No pairing of e-

CN:- strong field ligand:- Pairing of e- takes place

\left [ Fe\left ( H_{2}O \right )_{6} \right ]^{2+}\rightarrow Fe^{2+}=3d^{6}

\mu = \sqrt{n\left ( n+2 \right )}=4.9 BM

}\left [ Fe \left ( CN \right )_{6} \right ]^{4-}\rightarrow Fe^{2+}=3d^{6}

\mu = \sqrt{n\left ( n+2 \right )}=0 BM

So, ans is 0 and 4.9

Option 1)

0 and 4.9

Option 2)

2.84 and 5.92

Option 3)

4.9 and 0

Option 4)
