At a certain temperature in a 5 L vessel,
2 moles of carbon monoxide and 3 moles
of chlorine were allowed to reach
equilibrium according to the reaction,

CO + Cl_{2} \rightleftharpoons COCl_{2}

At equilibrium, if one mole of CO is present
then equilibrium constant (K c ) for the
reaction is :

As we have learnt

Law of Chemical equilibrium -

A+B\rightleftharpoons C+D

where  A & B are the reactants, C & D are the product in balanced chemical equations.

- wherein

K_{c}=\frac{[C]\:[D]}{[A]\:[B]}

Kc is the equilibrium constant.

    \\*\phantom{2ex}CO\phantom{2ex}+\phantom{2ex}Cl_{2} \phantom{2ex}\rightleftharpoons\phantom{2ex} COCl_{2}

2\;mole                3\;mole                   1\;mole

2 -1                    3 -1                            1

\frac{1mole}{5L}                 \frac{2mole}{5L}                    \frac{1mole}{5L}

K_{c} = \frac{[COCl_2]}{[CO][Cl_2]} = \frac{\frac{1}{5}}{\frac{1}{5}\times \frac{2}{5}} = \frac{5}{2} = 2.5

Option 1)

2

Option 2)

2.5

Option 3)

3

Option 4)
