The electrical resistance of depletion layer is large because
It has no charge carriers
It has a large number of charge carriers
It contains electrons as charge carriers
It has holes as charge carriers
P-N junction -
When p-type semiconductor is mixed with N-type semiconductor, P-N junction formed
There is a very thin region (of the order of the micrometre) called deputation region.
Since there is no hole or electron available in depletion region and hence it has a high electric resistance.
