Current in the galvanometer is directly proportional to the angle of deflection \mathrm{i \, \alpha\: \theta}

\mathrm{\Rightarrow \frac{i g}{i}=\frac{12}{60}=\frac{1}{5}\quad -(1)}

when shunt is connected with the galvanometer then

\mathrm{ (i-i_{g}) \cdot S=i_{g}-Q }.
\mathrm{ \Rightarrow Q=\frac{(i-i_{g})}{i_{g}} \cdot S=\left(\frac{i}{i_{g}}-1\right) \cdot S }
\mathrm{Q=(5-1) \times 12 \Omega }
     \mathrm{=48 \, \Omega }.
