The number of  circular divisions on the shown screw gauge is 50. It moves 0.5 mm on main scale for one complete rotation and main scale has 1/2 mm marks . The diameter of the ball is : (please give your answer in mm)

To measure the thickness of the given sheet using screw gauge -

C.S.R= circular \ scale \ reading

Total reading 

= M.S.R + C.S.R

= MSR +LC\times CSR

L.C = least count

C.S.R = Circular scale reading

 

Zero error =5\times \frac{0.5}{50}=0.05mm

Actual measurement = 2\times 0.5mm+25\times \frac{0.5}{50}-0.05 mm

                  =   1\; mm+0.25\; mm-0.05\; mm=1.20\; mm.
