 The overall order of reaction between X & Y is 3. Which of the following rate equation must be correct, if on doubling the concentration of Y, the rate of reaction gets doubled?

Option: 1

\mathrm{r}=\mathrm{K}[\mathrm{X}]^2[\mathrm{Y}]^0 \\

Option: 2

\mathrm{r}=\mathrm{K}[\mathrm{X}]^1[\mathrm{Y}]^2 \\

Option: 3

\mathrm{r}=\mathrm{K}[\mathrm{X}]^1[\mathrm{Y}]^3 \\

Option: 4

\mathrm{r}=\mathrm{K}[\mathrm{X}]^2[\mathrm{Y}]^1

Since order of reaction is 3, option 1 and 3 can not be true as the order is 2 and 4 respectively as per those options.

Further, it is given that the rate of equation gets doubled when concentration of Y is doubled which means order of reaction with respect to reactant Y. Hence,  \mathrm{r = K [X]^1 [Y]^{2}.}
