Switch 's' is closed

           

(R_{ab})_{closed}= \frac{4R}{3}                 ...........(1)

Switch 's' is open

(R_{ab})_{open }= \frac{3R}{2}                    .............(2)

\frac{(R_{ab})_{open }}{(R_{ab})_{closed }}= \frac{3R/2}{4R/3}= \frac{9}{8}

\therefore x= 9
