Let us assume that there are two forces  F and f  and F>f

So F+f=40 N

And if we assume that “R” is the resultant force and “f” is perpendicular to “R” then we can write 

F^{2}=f^{2}+R^{2}

\Rightarrow F^{2}-f^{2}=\left ( 20 \right )^{2}=400
By the hit and trial method, we can see only option (3) can be the right answer.
