Two billiard balls of mass 0.05 \mathrm{~kg} each moving in opposite directions with 10 \mathrm{~ms}^{-1} collide and rebound with the same speed. If the time duration of contact is \mathrm{t}=0.005 \mathrm{~s}, then what is the force exerted on the ball due to each other?

Option: 1

100\: \mathrm{N}

Option: 2

200\: \mathrm{N}

Option: 3

300\: \mathrm{N}

Option: 4

400\: \mathrm{N}

Answers (1)

best_answer

\mathrm{Force\: exerted=\frac{\Delta P}{\Delta t}=\frac{\left ( mv \right )-\left ( -mv \right )}{\Delta t}}

                                          \mathrm{=\frac{2mv}{\Delta t}}

\mathrm{F=\frac{2mv}{\Delta t}}

\mathrm{F=\frac{2\left ( 0.05 \right )10}{0.005}=200\: N}

The force exerted on the ball due to each other is \mathrm{200\: N}

Hence (2) is correct option.
