Two bodies of same mass are moving with the same speed , but in different direction. in a plane. They have a completely inelastic collision and move together thereafter with a final speed which is half of their initial speed. Thw angle b/w the intial velocities of the two bodies (in degree) is ______.

Let us apply conservation of momentum in x - direction. So,

m v \cos \theta+m v \cos \theta=2 m v^{\prime}

Also from the question -

v^{\prime}=v / 2

So,

2m v \cos \theta=2 m \frac{v}{2}

So, the angle between initial velocities of the masses is =  2\theta = 120^{o}
