As we learned

Parallelogram law of vector addition -

If two vectors are represented by both magnitude and direction by two adjacent sides of a parallelogram taken from the same point then their resultant is also represented by both magnitude and direction taken from the same point but by diagonal of the parallelogram.

- wherein

Represents  law of parallelogram vector Addition

Resultant R is perpendicular to smaller force Q and (P+Q)=18N.

\therefore P^2=Q^2+R^2

 or  P^2-Q^2=R^2  or  (P+Q)(P-Q)=R^2

  or  18(P-Q)=(12)^2 or P-Q=8

\because P+Q=18

\therefore P+Q=18N

P-Q=8N

\Rightarrow P=13N,Q=5N
