During the transformation of the reactants into products, old bonds break, and new bonds form. Before the bonds break, the molecules deform or bend and get to a high-energy unstable.  Energy must be supplied to the molecules to reach this state. This energy is the activation energy.

If activation energy of both forward and backward reaction is same, ,which means energy level of reactants and products is same. It implies enthalpy change for the reaction is zero.
