In Gold Schmidt method, oxides of certain metals are reracted with aluminum to yield aluminum oxide and the free metal. The process is used to produce metals such as chromium, manganese, and cobalt from oxide ores. So aluminium is used as a reducing agent. Eg

3 \mathrm{Mn}_3 \mathrm{O}_4+8 \mathrm{Al} \rightarrow 4 \mathrm{Al}_2 \mathrm{O}_3+9 \mathrm{Mn}
