Option: 1

Platinum electrodes can be used

Option: 4

Answers (1)

best_answer

As we have learnt in electrolysis of water,

2H_2O \longrightarrow 2H_2 + O_2

Reactions occuring at cathode and anode are given as

Cathode: 2H_2O + 2e^- \longrightarrow H_2 + 2OH^-Anode: 2H_2O \longrightarrow 4H^+ + O_2 + 4e^-

Thus, H_2 and O_2 are produced respectively at Cathode and Anode

Pure water is a poor conductor of electricity, so some acid or alkali is added to it.

Therefore, option(3)is correct.
