The main contributors to the formation of acid rain are sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide. These pollutants react with water, oxygen, and other chemicals in the atmosphere to form sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and carbonic acid, which then fall to the ground as acid rain. Chlorofluorocarbons, on the other hand, are not directly involved in the formation of acid rain. They are, however, harmful to the ozone layer and contribute to the depletion of ozone, which can indirectly affect the acidity of rain.
