Catalyst is of two types:
1. Positive catalyst
2. Negative catalyst

Positive catalyst will increase the rate of the reaction. Generally, by the term “catalysed reaction” means a positive catalyst is used in the reaction.

Negative catalyst will decrease the rate of the reaction. It is also called inhibitors.

Example of catalysed reaction:
1. Thermal decomposition of  \mathrm{H_2O_2}
It is accelerated by the presence of \mathrm{ MnO_2.}

\mathrm{ 2 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}_2+\left[\mathrm{MnO}_2\right] \stackrel{\succ}{\rightarrow} \dot{\mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}}+\mathrm{O}_2 \uparrow+\left[\mathrm{MnO}_2\right].}

At the end of the reaction, \mathrm{MnO_2}  can
be received in same composition and same mass as added.
Here, \mathrm{MnO_2} act as the catalyst.

2. Thermal decomposition of \mathrm{KClO_3}
\mathrm{MnO_2} also catalyses the thermal decomposition of \mathrm{KClO_3}

2 \mathrm{KClO}_3+\left[\mathrm{MnO}_2\right] \rightarrow 2 \mathrm{KCl}+3 \mathrm{O}_2 \uparrow+\left[\mathrm{MnO}_2\right].
