Damages are awarded in case of torts, breach of contract and libel suit beacuse the motive of damages in these cases so that the plaintiff can be enabled to make up for the loss which he has suffered because of the tort committed by another person. However in a criminal conduct it is not possible to make good the loss of a person by providing monetary damages, Hence the correct option is D.
