The statement is true, let us see how

Let AB and AC are chord of circle and AOD is a diameter such that ∠ OAB = ∠ OAC 

Now, draw OL perpendicular to AB and OM perpendicular to AC

Consider ? OLA and ? OMA

∠ OMA = ∠ OMA

OA = OA

∠ OAM = ∠ OAM

? OLA ≅ ? OMA

This gives, OL = OM

chords AB and AC are equidistant from O

So, AB = AC

Hence, the statement is true
