Species-areas relationship was first proposed by Alexander von Humboldt. The species-area relationship explains the connection between the area of a habitat and the species richness found within that area. The richness was described by a mathematical equation:

 Log S = Log C + Z Log A

where,
S = Specie richness
A= Area explored
C = Y-intercept
Z= Slope of line
