As we learnt

When alcohols are treated with SOCl2, OH is replaced by Cl.

\mathrm{ROH+SOCl_{2}\rightarrow RCl + SO_{2}+ HCl}

 \mathrm{SO_2\: and\: HCl}  are both gaseous byproducts while \mathrm{POCl_3\ and\ H_3PO_3} produced by reaction with \mathrm{PCl_5} are liquids which are difficult to separate.

Therefore, option (3) is correct.
