In the following question, a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement of reason (R)

A: Amber codon is a termination codon

R: If in m-RNA, a termination codon is present, the protein synthesis stops abruptly whether the protein synthesis is completed or not.

Option: 1

If both Assertion & Reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion, then mark (1)

Option: 2

If both Assertion & Reason are true but the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion, then mark (2)

Option: 3

If Assertion is true statement but Reason is false, then mark (3)

A set of triplets that codes for an amino acid is called codon. Ochre (UAA), opal (UGA) and amber (UAG) are stop codons that cause termination of protein synthesis. Assertion is correct. Since these codons do not code for any amino acid, they cause termination of translation when encountered in mRNA during protein synthesis irrespective of completion of the process. Reason is correct but is not the correct explanation.

Hence, the correct answer is option 2.
