Hydrogen forms a neutral oxide, i.e., \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O} (water) while the oxides of halogens are acidic in nature.
Hydrogen shows electropositive nature while halogens are electronegative in nature.
On combination with alkali metals, Hydrogen forms uninegative ion H and halogens also uninegative ion form X. Hydrogen also exists in diatomic form as halogens do.
