In male, the 9th sternite (segment) bears a pair of spine like anal styles, which are absent in female and are used to differentiate between male and female.

Males bear a pair of short, thread like anal styles which are absent in females. Anal/caudal styles arise from 9th abdominal segment in male  cockroach.
