Halogens react with hydrogen to give hydrogen halides but affinity for hydrogen decreases from fluorine to iodine. Hydrogen halides dissolves in water to form hydrohalic acids but they react with water to a little extent and forming acidic solutions because water is a polar solvent and halogens exist as non-polar diatomic molecules.
