 When in a compound, the oxidation state of oxygen is -1 and H_{2}O_{2} is released on reaction with dilute acids, that compound has peroxide linkage.

BaO_{2}, let x be the O.S. of 0

then +2 + 2(x) = 0

                   Dx = -1

Also, BaO_{2} gives H_{2}O_{2} on reaction with dilute acids.
