Tetraethyl lead is used to increase the octane number of gasoline because the bond between lead atoms and ethyl group are broken. Upon combustion, the lead forms lead oxide (PbO), which prevents fraction of fuel from burning too quickly. Due to this engine compression being raised, so it acts as negative catalyst and increase the octane number of gasoline. 

Hence option 1 is correct.
