Isosteres -

Molecules or polyatomic ions containing same number of atoms and the same total numbers of electron are called isosteres.Generally isosteres have identical lewis structure.  

   Example\rightarrow CO,\:N_{2}\:and\:CN^{-}

Isolectronic and Isotructural units can also be called isosteres

No. of electrons in ClO_{3}^{-} = 17\: +24\: +\: 1= 42

No. of electrons in SO_{3}^{2} = 16\: +\: 24+\: 2\: =\: 42

ClO_{3}^{-} and SO_{3}^{2-}, both are sp^{3} hybridized and thus have similar structure.
