Blastocyte is an early stage of the embryo. In mammals, it is around 5–6 days post-fertilization. It consists of the following-

  1. Trophoblast: Outer cell layer that forms the placenta.
  2. Inner Cell Mass (ICM): A Cluster of cells that develops into the fetus, the source of embryonic stem cells.
  3. Blastocoel: Fluid-filled cavity.

It is important for implantation in the uterine wall, and it marks the transition from a zygote to a structured embryo. The blastocyst is the stage of the embryo that implants in the uterine wall. After forming, the blastocyst's trophoblast cells begin interacting with the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) to establish a connection, which is required for nutrient exchange and the development of the embryo.
