Hypocotyl

The portion of the embryonal axis which lies below the cotyledon in a dicot embryo is known as the hypocotyl. It terminates with the radicle. 

Epicotyl

The portion of the embryonal axis which lies above the cotyledon in a dicot embryo is known as the epicotyl. It terminates with the plumule.
