What is the shape of a fullerene molecule?
Spherical
Cylindrical
Hexagonal
Octagonal
Fullerene molecules are spherical in shape and can be thought of as hollow spheres made up of carbon atoms arranged in a pattern that resembles a soccer ball.
Fullerenes in their natural form tend to be highly symmetrical. Their structure is quite similar to that of graphite and is made up of a sheet of connected hexagonal rings (cage structure). However, they have pentagonal and sometimes heptagonal rings which do not allow the sheet to become planar.
