When combustion of ethylene ( C_{2}H_{4}) takes place it releases carbon dioxide and water. If enthalpy of formation  of C_{2}H_{4}  is w, for O_{2}  is x, for CO_{2}   is y and for H_{2}O is z. Then find the enthalpy of reaction:

Option: 1

y+z-w-x

Option: 2

W+3x-2y-2z

Option: 3

2y+2z-w-3x

Enthalpy of reaction, \Delta H=H_{P}-H_{R}

First write the balanced equation of the reaction

C_{2}H_{4}+3O_{2}\rightarrow 2CO_{2}+2H_{2}O

Given

\Delta H_{f}^{0}C_{2}H_{4}=w

\Delta H_{f}^{0}O_{2}=x

\Delta H_{f}^{0}CO_{2}=y

\Delta H_{f}^{0}H_{2}O=z

Now, \Delta H=(2y+2z) - (w+3x) = 2y+2z-w-3x

Hence, Option number (3) is correct
