Electrolysis of solution of saline hydride in molten alkali halide produces \mathrm{H}_2   at anode. Saline hydrides react explosively with water.
\mathrm{\mathrm{NaH}(s)+\mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}(a q) \rightarrow \mathrm{NaOH}(a q)+\mathrm{H}_2(g)}
The fire so produced cannot be extinguished by  \mathrm{CO}_2  as it gets reduced by the hot metal hydride. Only sand is useful, as it is a solid.
