Which indicator should be used to titrate borax using analyte ? Also, what is the product formed when borax reacts with ?
Titration of borax can be done using methyl orange indicator, and this reaction forms diborane.
Titration of borax can be done using phenolphthalein indicator, and this reaction forms diborane.
Titration of borax can be done using phenolphthalein indicator, and this reaction forms boric acid.
Titration of borax can be done using methyl orange indicator, and this reaction forms boric acid.
Here, the solution of borax (sodium tetraborate) is weakly basic, and the analyte is a strong acid; thus at the end point, the solution mixture formed is weakly acidic. Phenolphthalein indicator changes its colour at about 9 pH,i.e., in basic medium, whereas methyl orange changes its colour at about 4 pH, i.e., in acidic nature. Since, at the end point our solution mixture is weakly acidic, we use methyl orange as an indicator.
