Periodicity of atomic radius and ionic radius in period -

In a period from left to right the effective nuclear charge increases because the next electron fills in the same shell. So the atomic size decrease.

- wherein

Li>Be>B>C>N>O>F

Variation of electron gain enthalpy with size of atom -

In general, the electron gain enthalpy value decreases (less negative) with increasing atomic radius.

- wherein

\bigtriangleup _{eg}H^{-}\:\:orE.A\:\propto \frac{1}{Atomic \:radius}

(A) In MnSO_{4}.6H_{2}O, Mn  is in +2  oxidation state. The electronic configuration is , [Ar]^{18} 3d^{5}4s^{0}

     and  thus it has five unpaired electrons.

(B) CuSO_{4}.5H_{2}O one unpaired electrons.

(C) FeSO_{4}.6H_{2}O, four unpaired electrons.

(D) NiSO_{4}.6H_{2}O, two unpaired electrons.

        Hence MnSO_{4}.4H_{2}O has highest number of unpaired electrons and has highest degree of paramagnetism.
