Preparation of alcohol -

By treatment with  ag.KOH  or moist  Ag2O

- wherein

RX+KOH(ag)\rightarrow ROH+KX


RX+Ag_{2}O(moist)\rightarrow ROH+AgX

 

 Primary haloalkanes upon treatment with aq. KOH yields alcohols. Tertiary halides, with strong base prefer to undergo E2 elimination reaction.

CH_{3}CH_{2}Cl + aq. KOH \rightarrow CH_{3}CH_{2}OH

Therefore, option (2) is correct.
