The magnitude of the resulting force can be found by :

                                           R\ =\ \sqrt{F_1^2\ +\ F_2^2 }

or                                               =\ \sqrt{8^2\ +\ 6^2 }

or                                              =\ 10\ N

Now force direction,

                                         \tan \Theta \ =\ \frac{6}{8}

or                                              \Theta \ =\ 37^{\circ}

The acceleration of the body is given by :

                                                a\ =\ \frac{F}{m}

or                                             a\ =\ \frac{10}{5}\ =\ 2\ m/s^2

Hence acceleration of the body is    2\ m/s^2   and its direction is the same as of the resultant force.
