13. Define the term inflorescence. Explain the basis for the different types of inflorescence in flowering plants.
The arrangement of flowers on the floral axis is termed inflorescence.
There can be two types of inflorescence i.e. racemose and cymose on the basis of whether the floral axis continues to grow or ends in a flower. In racemose inflorescence, the floral axis continues to grow and bear flowers whereas in cymose inflorescence the floral axis stops growing and terminates into a flower.
