The additional volume of air a person can inspire by a forcible inspiration is called inspiratory reserve volume (IRV).

The additional volume of air a person can expire by a forced expiration is called expiratory reserve volume (ERV).

In a normal individual, IRV is about 2500 to 3000 mL

In a normal human, ERV is about 1000 to 1100 mL.
