(ii) V.S. of maize seed
V.S. of maize seed-
This monocotyledonous seed has five major components. A seed coat is the seed's protective coating. Embryo and endosperm are found beneath the seed coat. The endosperm is large and contains food reserves. The aleurone layer is a proteinaceous layer that separates the embryo from the endosperm. The embryo is made up of one cotyledon, a radicle, and a plumule. During germination, the first leaf emerges from the coleoptile, a sheath that encloses the plumule. The initial roots emerge from the coleorhiza, a sheath that envelops the radicle.
