10. How important is the presence of an air bladder in Pisces?

Answers (1)

The presence of an air bladder (or a swim bladder), in fish, is crucial for their buoyancy control, allowing them to maintain their depth in water without exhausting much energy. This adaptation helps them conserve energy, avoid predators, and effectively forage for food. Not all fish have a swim bladder, but it plays a significant role in the lives of those that do. The air bladder is found to be present in the members of class Osteichthyes while it is absent in Chondrichthyes. Since Chondrichthyes do not have air bladders they have to swim continuously to avoid sinking.
