6. What are stomata? Give two functions of stomata.
There are small openings or pores on the lower surface of the leaves called stomata these openings are surrounded by guard cells. The two functions of stomata are:
(i) Transpiration is possible through stomata, i.e., excess water loss from the plant.
(ii) Absorption of water from the roots, when there is a loss of water from the stomata creates an upward pull. They are also responsible for the gaseous exchange of the plant.
Most of the transpiration takes place through stomata . Stomata are two kidney shaped guard cells . In stomatal transpiration , water absorbed by the roots rises through the stem and reaches the tissues of the leaves and releases the water . It also takes carbon dioxide and gives oxygen during the photosynthesis .
Stomata - ting of pores present in the leaf are called stomata
1 stomata helps in exchange gases
2 It also help in evaporation of water from leaves which is known as transpiration
