6. What are stomata? Give two functions of stomata.
There are small openings or pores on the lower surface of the leaves called stomata these opening are surrounded with guard cells.
The two functions of stomata are:
(i) Transpiration is possible through stomata, i.e., excess water loss from the plant.
(ii) Absorption of water from the roots, when there is loss of water from the stomata creates an upward pull.
(iii) Exchange of gases.
The tiny process opening present under the the leaves of plants is called stamata . The two function of stomata are.
1. It help in breathing of the plants.
2. It helps in exchange of gases which takes place inside the plant cells.
Most of the transpiration takes place through stomata . Stomata are two kidney shaped guard cells . In stomatal transpiration , water absorbed by the roots rises through the stem and reaches the tissues of the leaves and releases the water . It also takes carbon dioxide and gives oxygen during the photosynthesis .
The water evaporates through the stomata present on the surface of the leaves by the process of transportation . The evaporation of water frome leaves generates a suction pull ( the same that you produce when you suck water through a straw ) which can pull water to great heights in the tall trees . Transportation also cool the plant.

(1) transpiration in plants
(2) Exchange of gases
The number our pores under the surface of leaf are called stomato.Trapiration and exchange of gass [ corbon dioxide and oxygen] are the main function of stomata.

Stomata - ting of pores present in the leaf are called stomata
1 stomata helps in exchange gases
2 It also help in evaporation of water from leaves which is known as transpiration
