6. What are the cellular components of blood?
Blood is the fluid connective tissue. It consists of blood plasma and cellular components. The cellular components of blood are of the following types.
1. Erythrocytes- These are red blood cells. Erythrocytes are red due to the presence of haemoglobin. Erythrocytes are biconcave, coloured cells devoid of a nucleus. These mainly help in transporting respiratory gases.
2. Leukocytes- These are white blood cells. There are 5 types of leucocytes i.e. neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes and monocytes. Leu
kocytes are mainly involved in fighting infections and providing immunity.
3. Thrombocytes- These are blood platelets involved in the coagulation of blood.
4. Plasma- The liquid state of blood is called plasma, as it makes up ~55% of blood. It is pale yellow and when separated, it consists of salts, nutrients, water, and enzymes.
5 Platelets- These are tiny disc-shaped cells that help regulate blood flow when any part of the body is damaged, aiding in fast recovery through blood clotting.
It has four main components:Plasma, Red blood cells, white blood cells and Platelets.
