Actin refers to the thin and short contractile protein. Myosin refers to the thick and long contractile protein.
Actin is found in light bands called isotropic bands. They are found between the A and I bands. Myosin is found in dark bands called anisotropic bands. They are found between the A bands of a sarcomere.
Actin contains regulatory proteins called tropomyosin and troponin. Myosin contains regulatory proteins called meromyosin.
Actin filaments have a smooth surface and they do not form cross-bridges. Myosin filaments have a rough surface and they form cross-bridges.
