The boatman in the story "Lord Ullin's Daughter" was a kind and considerate person. He was not a greedy person who was doing things for money or silver coins but rather to help the girl. He was concerned about the safety of the girl and thus, tried to help her. More than the silver pound, he was interested in saving the girl. The streams of waves turned powerful enough to make any human afraid of the sea and to think twice before crossing it. The young beautiful, bonny girl cried in fear for the boatman to row the boat ahead because she was ready to face the waves than to face her angry father. It was to save her that the boatman took pity of the girl and put his own life in danger. Thus, the boatman was a very brave and courageous man.
