The net accelerating force is given by :

Net accelerating force    =    Force by engine    -    Frictional force

$=\ 40000\ -\ 5000\ =\ 35000\ N$

We know that the force is given by :

$F\ =\ ma$

or                                 $35000\ =\ (8000\ +\ 10000)a$

or                                         $a\ =\ \frac{35000}{18000}\ =\ 1.944\ m/s^2$

Thus acceleration of the train is   $1.944\ m/s^2$.
