(a) Group : Verical columns in the modern periodic table are known as 'Groups'. There are 18 groups.

\rightarrow Valency remain same in a group

\rightarrow Atomic size increases from to P to bottom in a group.

\rightarrow Metallic character also increases from top to bottom in a group.

(b) Atomic number =14

        Electric configuration =2\; \; 8\; \; 4

                                                 =K\; \; L\; \; M

It is semi-metal or metalloid

Reason - It exibits some properties of metals and some properties of non-metals.
