A triangular prism of refracting angle 60^{o} is made of a transparent material of refractive index 2/\sqrt{3} . A ray of light is incident normally on the face KL as shown in the figure. Trace the path of the ray as it passes through the prism and calculate the angle of emergence and angle of deviation.

The refracting angle is 60^{o}

A=60^{o}

Since at first face ray does not deviate, r_1=0

Therefore

A=r_1+r_2\\\Rightarrow r_2=A=60

Applying snells law at second face

 \frac{2}{\sqrt{3}}\sin 60^{o}=\sin r

\therefore \sin r=1

Hence, r = 90^{o}, is the angle of emergency,

So the angle of deviation is equal to 30^{o}.
