(a) Why don’t two magnetic field lines ever intersect each other ? Explain.
(b) ‘‘The magnetic field is said to be uniform inside a current carrying solenoid.’’ Why ?
(c) State Fleming’s left hand rule.
(d) Enlist two factors that enhance the power of commercial motors.
(a) Two magnetic field lines do not intersect each other because if they intersect then at the point of intersection there would be two directions and compass needle is showing two directions for the same magnetic field, which is not possible.
(b) The magnetic field lines are parallel to the axis of solenoid inside. Due to this the magnetic field strength is uniform inside a current carrying solenoid.
(c) Fleming's left hand rule states that if we strech the forefinger, middle finger and the thumb our left hand such that all three are mutually perpendicular to each other.
If the forefinger points in the direction of field and middle finger points in the direction of electric current, then that gives the direction of force acting on conductor.
(d) (i) by increasing number of coils.
(ii) By increasing potential difference between the terminals of battery in DC motor.
