(a) With the help of Mendel’s experiments show that
(i) traits may be dominant or recessive, and
(ii) traits are inherited independently.
(b) Birds and bats are more closely related to each other than to squirrels or lizards. Comment.
(a) Medel carried out a Monohybrid cross. Mendel crossed pure tall pea plants (TT) with pure dwarf pea plants (tt). Only tall pea plants are obtained in (First) generation and there were no dwarf pea plants.
Then crossed the tall plants of generation and found that tall and dwarf both plants are obtained in
(second) generation in the ratio 3:1.
In this way, Mendel's experiments with pea plants (tall & dwarf) showed that the traits may be recessive and dominant.
(b) Birds are closely related to lizards. Both are reptiles and bats are closely related to Squirrels. Both are mammals.
