Compare the following elements as per the characteristics given in the brackets :

(a) Lithium and Nitrogen (Atomic radii)

(b) Potassium and Chlorine (Electronegativity)

(c) Magnesium and Calcium (Valency)

Answers (1)

(a) Lithium has larger atomic radius than nitrigen because nitrogen has high effective nuclear charge as compare to Lithium.

(b) Electronegativity of chlorine is higher than potassium. This happens due to decrease in atomic radius, ehere nucleus has greater pull over electrons which cause more electronegativity.

(c) Valency of both magnesium and calcium is same which is +2. It is due to Mg and Ca both belong to group 2 of periodic table.
